Image Processing for Art Investigation (IP4AI) in Ghent, June 21-22, 2018

Research statement

The central goal of my research is to advance automated processing of visual information through intelligent machine vision. In particular, I am interested in encoding visual patterns, image modeling, representation, analysis and recovery from partial and degraded observations, inferring information of interest from massive data, and machine learning.

Short Bio

Aleksandra Pizurica received the Dipl. Ing. Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Novi Sad, Serbia (1994), the Master of Science degree in Telecommunications from the University of Belgrade, Serbia (1997) and the Ph.D. degree in Engineering from Ghent University, Belgium (2002). She was a postdoctoral fellow with the Fund for Scientific Research in Flanders - FWO (2005-2011) and a principal investigator at the research Department Multimedia Technology of the Flemish research institute iMinds (2009-2016). Since 2011 she is Professor in statistical image modelingat Ghent University. She has published more than 380 scientific contributions, including about 90 journal papers, on image and video processing topics including multiresolution statistical image models, Markov Random Field models, image and video reconstruction, restoration and digital painting analysis.

Prof. Pizurica serves currently as a Senior Area Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Image Processing and an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology. She was also an Associated Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Image Processing (2012-2016) and the lead guest editor for the EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing for the Special Issue "Advanced Statistical Tools for Enhanced Quality Digital Imaging with Realistic Capture Models" (2013). She is a senior member of IEEE and a member of ACM. The work of her team has been awarded twice the Best Paper Award of the IEEE GRSS (Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society) Data Fusion contest, in 2013 and 2014. She received the scientific prize "de Boelpaepe" for 2013-2014, awarded by the Académie royale des sciences, des lettres et des beaux-arts de Belgique for her contributions to statistical image modelling with applications to art investigation. She served as TPC Co-Chair of the 30th European Conference for Signal Processing, EUSIPCO 2022.
