Performance analysis

Performance analysis relies on mathematical tools like probability theory, queueing theory, complex network theory, control theory and game theory to support the design and optimal control of real-world systems by calculating key performance metrics of these systems like response times and energy consumption. Performance analysis is important for a range of applications, including cloud computing infrastructure, wireless networks, sensor networks, road networks and social networks.

Stochastic Modelling

A stochastic model is a tool for estimating probability distributions of potential outcomes by allowing for random variation in one or more inputs over time. The random variation is usually based on fluctuations observed in historical data for a selected period using standard time-series techniques. Distributions of potential outcomes are derived analytically or from a large number of simulations which reflect the random variation in the input(s).

Game Theory

Game theory is the study of mathematical models of strategic interaction among rational decision-makers. In engineering terms, game theory studies optimal control policies for multiple interacting agents that have their own objectives. In selecting a policy, an agent accounts for the other agents’ policies, accounts that the other agents account for its policies, and so on ... Some engineering applications, of game theory include the control of wired and wireless networks, energy control in sensor networks, and routing in road networks.
