VUB-UGent-Duke-UCL International Joint Research Group on Big Data - JBDR
Members
JBDR is an internationally engaged education, research and innovation network incorporating different
research groups from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Ghent University,
Duke University and University College London (UCL).
Research topic
Advanced theory, algorithms and system design in support of next-generation,
large-scale information processing systems and big data technologies with the aim to address
a new wave of big data applications in smart cities, smart healthcare, art investigation,
and political/security risk monitoring.
Vision
The support of future large-scale smart entities via big data technologies poses great challenges.
Effective mechanisms to sense, analyse and process large-scale data to derive actionable knowledge are on demand.
JBDR combines complementary expertise of the participating groups in machine learning, information theory,
signal processing, mathematics, and statistics.
JBDR also offers students, researchers and faculty to engage in educational and research programs (e.g. MSc or PhD programs)
across the Institutions (including study and research visits and joint PhDs).
Promoters
The promoters of JBDR representing the four participating instututions are
Prof. Nikos Deligiannis
(principal promoter, Vrije Universiteit Brussel),
Prof. Aleksandra Pizurica (Ghent University),
Dr. Miguel Rodrigues (University College London) and
Prof. Robert Calderbank (Duke University).
